Capturing San Francisco
Inventor George Lawrence used a kite to photograph the destruction of San Francisco. This never before seen view shocked the world and changed the course of photography. One hundred years later two groups worked to recreate his photo. The first, Scott Haefner and The Drachen Foundation, flew modern cameras on kites. The second, Ron Klein and Henry Jebe, recreated Lawrence’s original camera and captured the modern city by helicopter. This book celebrates 100 years of Lawrence’s influential image.
